Updates on Sgt Chris Pelton

At approximately 2240 hours, on December 2, 2019, officers with the Fort Lupton Police Department responded to a call for service for an armed suspect in the area of Ponderosa Pl. Officers arrived in the 200 block of Ponderosa Pl, where they were receiving information about the suspect, who was armed with a gun and attempting to make contact with someone at a residence in the area. 

As officers arrived on scene, they were approaching the residence when the suspect began firing at the responding officers. Sgt. Chris Pelton with the Fort Lupton Police Department was shot as officers approached the residence.

Brief Bio: Sgt. Pelton has been with the Fort Lupton Police Department since May of 2016 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2018. He is a patrol team supervisor, defense tactics instructor, and field training program coordinator. Sgt. Pelton is married with three children, he is incredibly involved in his community, and teaches self-defense classes.

Condition Updates: 

December 27th

Sgt. Pelton was released from the hospital this morning! We again want to express our appreciation for all the love and support! 

December 11th, 9:00 am

He has moved out of ICU and had reconstruction surgery. He is now ambulatory and improving. Such good news. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.

December 9th, 3:30 pm

Sgt. Pelton is out of the ICU and has begun mobility therapy. Thank you for your continued support!

December 6th, 4:00 pm

Sgt. Pelton remains in ICU but is improving. His normal functions are beginning to return. He is awake and aware of his family and friends near him.
